Introduction
The American Hockey League, also abbreviated as AHL and located in both the United States of America and Canada, is a professional ice hockey league that features teams from both countries. The primary objective of this organization is to serve as a feeder league for the National Hockey League (NHL). Know more about springfield thunderbirds.
From the beginning of the 2010–11 season, every team in the league has been required to have an affiliation arrangement with one of the National Hockey League teams. If a player’s NHL team does not have an American Hockey League affiliate, the player will be assigned to play for an NHL team with an AHL affiliation. The United States of America is home to twenty-six teams competing in the American Hockey League, while Canada is home to only six of the league’s franchises. The league’s current president, Scott Howson, presides over the organization from its offices in Springfield, Massachusetts, and the city is in Massachusetts.
Criteria for Selection
Either the athlete must be at least 18 years old or not currently under contract with a junior ice hockey team to participate in the American Hockey League (AHL). The league places a limit of five skaters on the number of experienced professional players that can be on an active roster for any given game; these skaters must have a combined total of at least four full seasons of experience playing at the professional level (goaltenders are exempt from this rule and can stay in the AHL indefinitely without being subject to this cap). The Championship
The cup awarded to the champion of the annual playoffs, known as the Calder Cup, was given its name in honor of Frank Calder, the first president of the National Hockey League (NHL) (1917–1943). The Chicago Wolves plan to defend their title as Calder Cup champions in the year 2022. They are the first team to accomplish this feat since the Charlotte Checkers in 2019, who did it on their way to winning the championship.
